Some thoughts on  Traditional Language:

For the most part, here at Fist and Foot, we use English with a few exceptions.  I have mostly dropped using Korean commands and names during class. I figure it this way: Traditionally, they spoke their Mother Tongue. They didn’t speak a foreign language, poorly.

That being said, due to the company that I worked 15 years for  requiring me to use “Sensei” for Instructor;  “Anza” for sitting “tailor style” or “criss-cross”;  “Seisa” for formal sitting, and “Sempai” for student helper; these words have stuck with me. However, they aren’t Korean, they’re Japanese. I apologize if anyone finds this offensive, but to stop using Sensei? As my wife says, “Dear,  that ship sailed a long time ago”. 😉

Besides, many students like having a “Sensei”.

Some thoughts on martial art styles:

While here at Fist and Foot the belts awarded are Tae Kwon Do belts (TKD),  we train martial arts using Bruce Lee’s “Jeet Kune Do/The Way of the Intercepting Fist” as our guiding Premise. What this means is we train using the “‘four range’ theory” of fighting ; kicking, striking, ground fighting, and weapons. We explore styles  that highlight these ranges and use from them what works for us.
